A newly appointed MD was stepping into one of London’s oldest creative agencies, with a proud reputation and a well-known founder whose name was still over the door. Although the founder had stepped back, their presence loomed large – creating ambiguity about who was really in charge. The MD needed to establish authority, gain the trust of the team, and find a way to work constructively with the founder – without derailing progress.
Andy coached the MD on upward management, helping him define boundaries with the founder while ensuring the founder’s value was still recognised. They worked together to design and implement a clear operational plan and strengthen leadership language across the business. Andy also advised on a subtle rebrand to help symbolise the shift in leadership, without losing the legacy reputation the agency had built over decades.
The MD has successfully stepped into his authority and now leads the business with confidence and clarity. The founder’s role has shifted into a supportive, advisory position that no longer creates confusion. The business has renewed energy, with a stronger leadership culture and a refreshed brand identity.
